While the year is still brand new, I wanted to take the time to wish a happy and healthy 2010 to all of my wonderful clients, fellow photographer friends and followers of the Lucky Blog! This last year has been amazing both personally and professionally for me and I count my blessings every day. Professionally, I could not have wished for a better first year for Lisa Lucky Photography and I just know that 2010 will be even bigger and better. Stay tuned because there are some big changes about to take place at Lisa Lucky…you don’t want to miss them!
Now, what would a post be without some pictures?
Before I post them, I’ll mention that one of my most frequently asked questions from parents as well as from other photographers who write me for advice is…how do you get the kids to cooperate as well as you do? What are your tricks?
Well, if you promise not to tell anyone, I’ll tell you *the* biggest trick out there: don’t be the parent of the child/ren you are photographing. LOL! Almost any photographer will tell you that your own children can be some of the most difficult subjects to photograph, and I will definately agree! There is a name for it: Photographer’s Child Syndrome, and yes, all three of mine suffer from varying degrees of PCS.
In fact, all I wanted was a simple picture of all three boys in their Christmas jammies. Sounds simple enough, but just take a look at the hilarity that ensued…

Ahhhh, *THE* shot!!!

Christmas is just around the corner and I managed to sneak in one last session before the jolly old elf makes his appearance!
“L” and “L” were up for just about anything I threw their way. They were lots of fun and they had lots of fun, as you’ll be able to see!

6 months is such a great age and it is a perfect time for custom portraiture because typically the baby can sit up, but can’t yet crawl away from the camera. Not only that, but they can do all sorts of cute things like smile, giggle, and chew on their toes.
Little “Mr. D” was no exception. I have been fortunate to watch him grow as I have photographed him as a newborn, a 3 month old and now at half a year. He was such a sweetie and was full of adorable expressions and noises. I also could not resist taking some photos of “Miss A” at his session, too. She’s a great big sister!
Our little birdie didn’t exactly love his nest that I built him…but he gave me one good shot before he had enough:)

I can’t believe my sweet little nephew is already turning one! My oh my, how the year has flown by!
Some of you may know that I took some maternity photos for my sister three weeks before her due date…thinking she still had plenty of time before E would arrive. Little did we know that day, but E would make his grand entrance less than 24 hours later:)

At age one, E is walking and talking and eating real food and being sweet and ornery and adorable! He melts my heart and makes me such a happy Auntie:) We had a gorgeous day for his one year shoot and I think he enjoyed himself. I know I did.

Towards the end of the summer I came across an ad for the National Geographic International Photo Competition. Initially, I wasn’t sure if this was a competition I should enter or not. Heck, I’d only entered one other competition and this one was a biggie. Not to mention I did not have any photos from exotic locations. But knowing that National Geographic is a magazine that shows the world and it’s people, including America, I decided to enter. I submitted one image.
Imagine my suprise when a fellow photographer contacted me and told me he saw my image *HERE*, at the BostonGlobe.com (mine is image #21). So then, wondering how the author of that article obtained my picture, I went to to the National Geographic site and found my picture amongst the featured “People Pictures” in their galleries from all of their submissions. You can see it *HERE*, by looking in the “September Week 2″ under the people galleries.
They will announce one single winner in the People Category on or around December 1st, so until then I don’t know if I’ve won. I don’t expect to win, those galleries are full of the work of AMAZINGLY talented photographers…I am just happy to be included and featured along with them.
Here is the image, taken in Gratiot, Ohio (March 2009).

What a fun family this was to photograph!
The “S” family could not have had a more beautiful day for their session! It was in the 60’s and sunny…a rare treat for mid-November! The kids, “A” and “C”, definately enjoyed being outside. “A” has brown hair and brown eyes while “C” is blond and blue-eyed, but they both had sweet charming personalities and I could tell how much they love one another.
It was a pleasure photographing your family Mr. and Mrs. S! I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

Ahh…and this one. This may be one of my favorite photos of all time, and I’ll tell you why. A photograph should, in my opinion, be more than just a picture of what someone looks like. A great photo should capture emotion, tell a story, have life. So, when I was going through the photos from the session, I found this one. This was near the end of our (2+ hr) session. The children had been most cooperative during the entire shoot and had happily done everything I asked them to do. But just like all children…they get weary towards the end. This particular shot was taken when I lined up all the members of the family and then called out a name. I asked the person whose name I called to run towards me. When I called “A’s” name, he ran. He ran with sheer joy and reckless abandon. Look! His feet aren’t even touching the ground. I’m sure he was beyond thrilled not to have to sit in an old chair, stand in a field, lay on concrete…he just got to be a kid. And that’s makes my heart smile:)

I thought I would share one picture of my own sweet boy being hugged by the warm fall light:)

Can you believe that Christmas is just right around the corner? I know I cannot, especially considering the unseasonably warm temperatures we have been having here in Parkersburg!
You actually might recognize these two adorable five year old twin girls from my Strasburg Sisters session earlier this summer. Their mama called me and asked if we could do a little mini-session with the girls dressed in their Christmas attire and I was more than happy to oblige! As usual, the girls and I had lots of fun! They even brought along an antique sled that is a family heirloom of theirs. And despite the upper 60 degree temperatures, they were troopers in their Christmas sweaters and turtlenecks.
As always, you are a pleasure to work with “Mrs A”. I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

I love this one:) They sure love their Mama!

Boys! Gee, do I sure know a LOT about boys. Not only did I give birth to three of them…it seems everything that comes into my life is male (including the new kitty that adopted us).
So, when three year old “J” and his family met me for their session, I was totally prepared for all the energy, orneriness and sweetness that boys bring! He walked in the woods, played with balloons, stood on crates and loved on his Mama (who obviously *adores* him, cantcha tell?). The weather was gorgeous and the warm tones of their clothing complimented the warm tones of the last of the autumn leaves.
I hope you enjoy your sneak peek “K” family!

See? There’s the orneriness I was talking about!

Wasn’t his Mama’s hair made for pictures like these? LOVE that red hair!

Peek-A-Boo!

And this one…all the backlight caused me to miss focus. Normally, those shots are scrapped, but this one was too beautiful to delete and I think it tells a story just as it is:) At least I hope it does anyway:)

Fall is definately here and for a while there felt like it was almost gone. The weather had been so cold and gloomy, I was truly worried about this session. But all the worry was wasted because we had a gorgeous sunny autumn evening for our photoshoot!
These three little ones had lots of fun on our shoot! We started off in Marietta in one of my favorite urban spots. Then we headed off to the rolling hills of beautiful SouthEastern Ohio where we finished our evening.
Thanks to the H family for being so much fun and for being up for anything! I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!
