eah, I know what you're thinking....what a weird blog post title! I'll explain here in a bit. But first...

I think one of the best parts about hiring a custom portrait artist to photograph your children is getting to see your children through someone else's eyes. It is fun and enlightening and interesting to see what kinds of expressions the photographer can get from them, perhaps even ones that you, as their parent, cannot get. I even think that holds true even if you are a photographer yourself. I know it is for me!

So, over the weekend, I had the pleasure of photographing a photographer's family. It was the talented Andrea Burns of Andrea Burns Photography, her husband and her three beautiful children. (those of you who shop the Pottery Barn Kids catalog may recognize little Audrey...she was PBK's baby of the month a few months ago!!!) They traveled from the Washington, D.C. area to get to me, so quite a long trip to Parkersburg, but you would have never known...the kids were sunny and cheerful and happy!

We had a beautiful evening for our session now that the hot humid weather seems to be gone. The sky was a crispy blue with just the right amount of clouds. I felt like I got to know them a bit too as we sat and ate our hamburgers together under the shade of a big tree and it was there that I learned that they are just as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. I also learned that Andrea has a very high pain tolerance (toenail!) and that they have an awesome sense of humor. They joked that they had talked about naming their kids "rug", "sun" and "wind"...since their last name is Burns. Ha!

Anyhow, it was a pleasure to meet all of you.

Andrea, here is your family...though my eyes:)

Did I mention it was windy? Wind definitely makes for messy wind blown hair...but also for happy natural smile:)

ay! Hooray for gorgeous sunset light, late summer grasses and greenery and YAY for an adorable 13 month old and adorable clothing!

I had a great time getting to know little Miss B. At first, she was pretty somber (yet pleasant!)...but by the end of the session, she was all smiles and even let me pick her up and carry her! Isn't she gorgeous! I still can't get over her hair. It was so long for that age and her mom told me that she's already had to cut it something like five times!

It was great meeting you Mr. and Mrs. B! I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!
...little girl, big shadow...

hese two brothers came to visit me all the way from the Atlanta, Georgia area! You would think since they drove many many miles north that they would have been able to escape that super hot late summer Georgia heat. Nope! The evening of our session was probably the hottest day of the year and even when the sun was going down, the little guys were still sweaty and sticky. They were troopers, though and I don't think I heard them complain once about the heat.

Luckily for us, their grandparents own an amazing piece of property and that's where we conducted our session. I'm still amazed that we were only minutes from Parkersburg, it felt so secluded and peaceful!

Thanks to the "A Family"...or should I say both of the "A Families"? It was great meeting you and I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

hat a beautiful evening it was when I photographed these four sisters. The weather here in West Virginia has been so hot and sticky, but the night of our session it was in the low 80's and the humidity was low.

I had such fun with these girls and they were so sweet and cooperative. The light that night was amazing, too...just amazing!

Hang on, it's gonna be a doozy of a post. It's just the kind of mood I'm in today:)

Look at those lashes!!!
The "big" sister...can you believe her hair and eyes...what an amazing combo!!!
...her little heart shaped rock...
Little Miss G just turned one, so we took some additional ones of her in honor of that!
You can tell by her body language here that she is feeling shy and unsure...but she's smiling anyway:)
Whew!
