An Ode To Spring! | Children's Photography

A
aahhh, my dear readers in West Virginia and Ohio...spring is on the way! We have been having some MUCH needed warmer weather in these parts and oh what it does to lift the spirits! I was even able to open the windows in my house yesterday and let in some of the glorious fresh air!

When I think of spring, I think of flowers, so I thought I would share a few images that I took last year in a beautiful field of yellow flowers. We don't have lots of open fields of flowers in the Parkersburg and Marietta areas, so when I stumbled upon this spot I knew I had found a treasure. I took a couple of clients there and then also went back several times just shooting for my own pleasure. All of these were taken over the course of about two weeks and all with different lighting conditions. It's interesting to see how different the same field can look at different times with different light.

Speaking of spring, I will begin photographing sessions again mid next month. I cannot wait! My mind is buzzing with all kinds of new ideas and I've even got a few new locations in mind. I am nearly booked for the months of April and May, so if anyone is interested in a spring session...the time to contact me is now!

he great ladies over at The Maternal Lens asked me if I would like to be featured and of course I agreed! The blog is about photographers and photography and it was started by five gals who themselves happen to be photographers.

Their questions were really great and some were quite interesting! I got the opportunity to talk about my love of children's photography, what cameras and lenses I use...even what like to make for dinner!

Check it out!

Sun and Snow | West Virginia Children's Photographer

inding nice flat places with open sky in West Virginia can be tricky! But with a little patience, we found the perfect spot!

I knew that I wanted to capture the glorious blue bright sky contrasting with the stark white snow and I needed some big unobstructed sky and my wide angle lens to accomplish it. I used off-camera flash for some of these images and natural light for others. I always enjoy utilizing various techniques when I shoot...being a children's photographer is the best!

I'll mention too, since I frequently get emails about the clothing children wear in my shoots...the sweater and jeans are from one of my favorite places, Mini Boden.

Hello Beautiful! | West Virginia Children's Photographer

A
nyone who knows me knows that I am not a lover of winter. I do not ski. I am miserable when I feel cold. I do not like to drive in the snow. I neeeed sunshine! I am truly a warm weather lovin' kind of gal!

You know, winter actually might not be all that bad, if only the sun would shine a little more often. This has probably been the dullest grayest winter I can ever remember. I thrive on blue skies and those have been too few and too far between this winter.

So this morning when I pulled the car out of the garage on the way to take the kids to school, I was almost brought to happy tears when I got hit square in the face with sunshine. I didn't put on my sunglasses, no, in fact I rather enjoyed the squintiness. It reminded me that all things are relative. What would have greatly annoyed me in August, a time when the sun shines nearly every day and the heat and humidity are generally unpleasant...felt awesome in February, a month that has maybe seen two sunny days.

And then that got me to thinking...

How much would I appreciate the sun if it shone every day? Would I take it and it's warmth and beauty for granted? Might I even start to feel annoyed by it's brightness? Do we need some gray skies to fully appreciate the sunny blue ones?

There is a beautiful song called For the Weary that talks about this very thing. (You can hear an amazing version of it, here, by the exceptionally talented Allison Sattinger.) The song talks about an optical phenomenon called Alpenglow and how when life is going great and all of a person's days are sunny, one might be too busy and distracted to notice something as beautiful as Alpenglow. But when life is tougher and filled with mostly gray days, a person is more able and apt to notice the beauty around them...more apt to appreciate it and not take it for granted.

...the steeper the ridge line, the higher the sunshine, the sweeter the Alpenglow,
the more the resistance, the greater the distance, the sweeter the Alpenglow...

There is no Alpenglow in Parkersburg, but today there is sunshine.

Wherever you are, I hope you are enjoying the Alpenglow.

And if you are still amidst the gray skies, hang in there, the Alpenglow will come:)

I
am so SO SO happy to welcome you to the new look of Lisa Lucky Photography! All of this has truly been a labor of love and I couldn't be more excited to unveil it!

None of this would even exist without the most awesome team at Infinet Design. Brock and Dave have been a pleasure to work with and they are truly the definition of professionals. When we started my project, I gave them an idea of how I thought my branding and new website and blog should look...and they ran with it. Not only did they run with it, they exceeded my wildest expectations in every way. I couldn't be more thrilled with my new look because I feel that it really helps define what I want the Lisa Lucky brand to be about...capturing children, as themselves.

If you are reading this, you've found my blog! If you would like to return to the home page, simply click on the "ll" logo at the top. You can also check out my work in one of the galleries or learn a little more about me in the about lisa section. So, take your time and have a look around. If you like what you see, leave me a comment here on the blog...I'd love to hear from you!

Most of all, thank you for taking the time to visit me. I am very much looking forward to spring and photographing my first sessions of the season! I just know that 2010 is going to be an amazing year here at Lisa Lucky Photography! Come along and join me on the journey!
